Sandhya Sekar

Sandhya Sekar is the Programme Director of Mongabay-India, a multilingual, fully remote environmental newsroom. As its first hire in 2018, she’s been involved in everything from bureau strategy to building teams, partnerships and the systems that keep things running. A scientist-turned-journalist who had never worked in a conventional newsroom, she found herself learning how to build and manage one from scratch. Somewhere along the way, she discovered that helping people do their best work was essential to good journalism — and that she rather enjoyed it. Eight years in, she’s still figuring out what makes a good newsroom tick.
